Lend Us Your Brain
Simon Ingram - The Algorithmic Impulse (2021)
I got to draw squiggly lines with my brain, an AI computer, and a cute wee robotic brush.
Back in mid-2020 as the world was in lockdown I noticed the Wellington Art Gallery were calling for volunteers to strap* themselves into a headset, let their alpha and beta waves take control of an AI + robotic paintbrush and create ART!
Since 21st November 2020 a tonne of people have sat in the chair and I was the happy be the last one to turn up at 2pm on Sunday March 7th and MAKE ART!
What I actually did was, for 2 hours, make this website and the end result was ART to complement it.
* no strapping was done, it was a wee teeny tiny headset that fitted snugly around my forehead and I instantly forgot it was there spying on my every thought
Simon Ingram
Drawing on approaches from artificial life, computer engineering, and robotics, Simon Ingram challenges our idea of ‘the artist’. Visit on the weekend and witness his machine make a painting based on a visitor’s brainwaves.
Sounds like a dude eh. Unfortunately I wasn't able to meet the man himself due to the Auckland COVID lockdown, grrr, pesky virus!
